Having had a loved one who lost his appendix (it exploded, unfortunately for him) I can attest that while it’s fairly useless, it can not only cause a lot of damage on its way out, but it does seem to have some factor in infection. Years later when he started getting into tattoos, he had several infections that typically wouldn’t happen in normal tattoo application.
